Before becoming a therapist I too suffered the debilitating effects of anxiety and panic attacks which seriously interfered with my home, work and social life. But with help I soon gained a new perspective, understood the reasons behind my symptoms, learned to challenge my thoughts, took back control and found peace.
I can help you do the same with hypnotherapy and psychotherapy.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety itself is a normal human response, it keeps us from danger and prepares our bodies to protect ourselves. However, anxiety becomes problematic when the thoughts, emotions and bodily responses associated with anxiety occur within situations where it is not needed.
Common symptoms of anxiety are: Racing heart, shortness of breath, tight chest, butterflies in the stomach, tremor, a feeling of dread, tension, constant negative thinking, feelings of needing to escape, dizziness.
These symptoms can be intense and may be causing you to avoid certain situations or activities, or you may be feeling like you can no longer cope with your normal daily life.
However anxiety is affecting your life, it does not have to be this way. Help is here for you.
What causes anxiety?
There may be specific circumstances which you avoid or cause you to experience distressing feelings of anxiety, or you may not know what is causing it, you just feel a constant underlying sense of dread.
Anxiety occurs when we feel under threat, which is often due to a combination of factors. You may be aware of a past negative experience which is continuing to affect your life. Your present circumstances may be causing you undue stress leaving you feeling unable to cope. Perhaps you are anxious about what might happen in the future.
Your issue may be based around behavioural, thought or emotional issues, or a combination of all three.
You may consciously know what the threat is or this may remain in your subconscious, out of reach.
Whilst the causes, types and symptoms of anxiety are varied and of course help to provide a diagnosis. At Cheshire Therapy Room I prefer to work without labels.
