Hypnotherapy for stress in Congleton, Cheshire.
According to the Mental Health Foundation’s 2018 study, 74% of people in the UK have felt so stressed within the last year that they have felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.
Every one of us will experience stress at some time or another.
Stress is a natural and important part of human life. The fight, flight or freeze response is literally how our species have survived. We are built to anticipate danger and respond to it.
Some forms of stress are good for us, it helps us to prepare and perform to our best and in an ideal situation once a stressful situation is over we turn to a resting state. When we are under unhealthy amounts of stress however, this does not happen.
You will have your own unique triggers for stress based on your own experiences, but often life changes, feelings of not being in control or a feeling of threat to our sense of self can contribute to triggering the fight or flight response.
What about when stress becomes chronic?
We are all able to tolerate stress to different levels. Imagine that we each have a different sized bucket. Stress is the water that we pour into the bucket. If we constantly drip water into the bucket without emptying it out eventually our bucket will overflow no matter how big it is.
When you find yourself under stress for a long time your body become constantly on high alert and in a permanent state of fight or flight. This can lead to a number of psychological and physiological problems.
What are the symptoms of stress?
Stress can manifest and contribute to a number of problems including:
- Anxiety and Panic attacks
- Irritability, anger or aggression
- Headaches and migraines
- You may find you increasingly turn to alcohol or drugs to cope
- IBS or indgestion
- High blood pressure
- Skin conditions
