Therapy is as individual as you are…

There is no set protocol as to how a course of therapy should proceed. However, I provide therapy in Congleton, whether in-person or online, which is accessible, collaborative and with a focus on providing you with a warm, professional service from the first point of contact. To help you get an idea of what to expect from I have put together this step by step guide.

Taking the first step…

Whether you contact me directly through my website, via telephone or email, you can be assured that your enquiry is handled confidentially and with no obligations.

My website has a lot of information which you may find useful. Alternatively contact me directly with your queries. Whatever your concern, you can rest assured that all communication is handled personally, by me, and I endeavour to answer your questions promptly, to help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Your choice of therapist is such a personal decision, therefore I recommend a 15 minute phone call or a Zoom session so that you can see that I am the right fit for you before booking an appointment.

Initial Consultation…

Whether you work with me online or in my consulting room in Cheshire, I offer a safe, non-judgmental environment to explore your reasons for therapy. It is my role to support you in your journey and to offer my expertise in hypnotherapy and psychotherapy to help you to get the most out of your experience of therapy. I abide by the UKCP code of ethics and am fully insured by Balens.

Therapy is a collaborative process and our initial session will be about deciding how we can work together in the most efficient and effective way.

The initial consultation provides the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I will listen and work to help you understand where you currently are so that we can formulate a plan together.

Some people have a very clear goal in mind, whilst others don’t and that is absolutely fine, I am here to understand and work with you in the way that fits you best.

Any plans are completely flexible and will be revisited regularly to ensure you are getting the most out of your therapy.

Individual therapy…

I don’t believe that people fit into boxes, so I don’t try to fit you to a particular style of therapy, whilst my underlying philosophy is a person-centred one, in which you are the expert in your life; I am trained in a wide variety of approaches so that I can work with you to create a completely tailored approach for you.

Depending on what is most appropriate for you, I adopt approaches and techniques from person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, transactional analysis, gestalt and psychodynamic therapy (I am very happy to talk to you about what these mean and look like).

Be assured that any approach or technique will be mutually agreed. I am not here to tell you how you should feel, what you should do or pass judgement. Therapy is guided by you. I am here for you to offer my expertise in hypnotherapy and psychotherapy to help you get to where you want to be.

Ending therapy…

Whilst I may suggest a likely number of sessions, this will depend on many different factors such as what you want to work on, what you want from therapy and your individual needs and motivations.

Rest assured you are under no obligation to attend a minimum number of sessions and likewise if your journey is a longer one, I will support you for as long as this is beneficial to you.

We will regularly review our work and how you feel you are progressing so that we are always on the same page, from here we can plan or adapt for further work or plan the ending to our work accordingly.

If you have any questions at all about the process of therapy that you don’t feel is answered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
